The answer is, My Fitness Coach technically delivers a better workout, but is not nearly as fun to use as EA Sports Active. And from my experience, fun is the key to effective workouts with the Wii. Without fun, a game will sit on the shelf.

My Fitness Coach is basically a glorified exercise video. It doesn't use the Wii's capabilities nor controls. It's just an on-screen voice telling you to do certain exercises. With EA Sports Active, you can use the Wii-mote, the nunchuks, and even the Balance Board (optionally), and it includes two cheap-yet-effective accessories (a resistance band and a nunchuk holder for your thigh).

So if I had to choose between the two, I would choose EA Sports Active, unless you are a very, very, very disciplined person who doesn't need "fun" to stay motivated :)
References :
http://www.nutwiisystem.com/best-wii-exercise-games.html

I've only played EA Sports Active and it is a great workout. If you are actually dedicated enough to do the exercises it is really great for fitness and quite fun. I didn't buy the EA Active Sports but the family member who bought it did a lot of research of exercise games and I'm sure she had a reason for buying it.
