PostHeaderIcon How are wooden baseball bats made?

How are they dried, what type of lathe is used, how to replicate differant models.

Bats are made from hardwoods, generally ash, but sometimes birch, hickory, or maple. The wood is put in a giant oven called a kiln and heated for a number of hours until the moisture is around 6%. The peices of wood are cut to size and put on a duplicating lathe. These lathes use a template to cut the same demensions every time. The bat is then finished and heat stamped or laser engraved with the label.

PostHeaderIcon What kind of baseball bats do they use to break it with a kick?

I would also like to know the proper technique of the holders.
The kick I would want to perform is a side roundhouse kick.
Wel… Obviously the wooden ones… LOL!
But I think people probably use a weaker kind or even bake the bat to make it break more easily.

Those bats are made from weaker woods meant for breaking. According to a wood supplier, they are made from the core of pinetree. They are very weak and they break with a loud crisp sound. Perfect for showing off.

PostHeaderIcon what is the best type of compostie baseball bats?

i am looking for a new bat and i narrowed it down to three. rawlings fusion luisville exo or the easton stealth. the stealth and fusion are both bats that bend but i dont know if that really makes a difference does it?

it makes a big difference. when it bends is creats a wip like reaction in a result of the ball bouncing off the bat at a higher speed. so i would go with the stealth. i have one and i can not only see the difference but feel the difference also.

i have a bunch of baseball bats that i dont use. i have a 2006 stealth 31-20, a 2008 stealth 32-23 and a 2009 titan 33-30. i was thinking about giving them to my school or selling them. what should i do? and how much wouldi get for them separate and together? all of the bats are in good condition with a decent amount of pop left.

if you have previously used them then they should be about 100-50 off there original price…try craigslist

PostHeaderIcon Where can I find larger baseball bats?

I know x-bats will sell bats up to 35". I know that some major league players have bats in the 36-38 inch range. The largest you can ever find in stores is 34" and I am strong enough to swing probably up to 37"/34 oz (I can swing a 34" weighted up to 34 oz no problem). Does anyone know of a place where you can buy wooden bats over 35"?

Boy where you asking for it. I was thinking www.pfizer.com, but that would just make your bat harder for more games.

How about a local woodworking shop? They could throw a hunk of wood on a lathe and make it for you. Or Call Louisville Slugger and ask them if they could custom make one (probably charge you a ton) or if they don’t they may guide you to some one who can.

PostHeaderIcon how many baseball bats are used in one season?

i was just curious…out of all the players throughout all of the mlb how many bats do they go through in one season? like a total number for the entire mlb. i dont need an exact number just something close.

What a question!! Well, player’s won’t change bats just because they break, they will "sacrifice" them to the baseball gods when needed, mainly because of a slump (I have seen it done and done it myself). But on average, a player will get the most out of a bat after about 40-60 contacts. The average number of at bats for each team in the MLB last season was 5557. So, lets do some crazy math.

5000 AB per team X 30 teams= 150,000 AB
150,000AB/ 40 or 60 contact= 3750 to 2500

So, to answer you question, between 2500 and 3750 bats… If you want to get more in depth, think about batting practice and other practice scenarios.
