If you don’t mind spending the money, the Rawlings "Primo" glove is awesome. You can also never go wrong with the Wilson A2000 series. Both of these models are used by a number of major leagers.
Because they’re so expensive, I’d spend a few extra bucks and have it embroidered. I’d hate to see you drop $200+ bucks on a mit and have it stolen.
As far as bats go, I wouldn’t get too crazy. I’m much older than you and used bats with far less technology and still managed to bat nearly .400 in high school.
The Easton synergy series are great bats. They’re light and responsive. The best part is that you can pick one up for $200 or so. The Demarini "Voodoo" is also a nice bat that won’t break the bank.
You can check out these bats/gloves on Eastbay.com. Their selection is pretty nuts.
Good luck! Oh, and remember this. The bat, glove and spikes don’t make the ballplayer. The bottom-line is this…Find a glove and a bat that feel good to you! Find a shop that specializes in baseball equipment so that you can try the gloves on and potentially take a few practice swings with the bats.

I would definitely go with any type of rawlings baseball glove. They have the Gold Glove series, Heart of the Hides, Pro Preferreds, and the Italian Primos. They last two are pretty expensive but they are durable, long lasting, and will not disappoint you. I’m also 16 and play shortstop right now for my varsity team and i use a rawlings pro preferred 11.5 inch I – web. It took about a month and a half to truly break in (using it twice a day, every day) but I’ve had it for three years and it is still in pretty good shape. I think you will be very satisfied with it.
As for bats, this year I used the current TPX exo, stealth comp and F3 models. The exo hits very well and has great pop but i tend to prefer the last two bats because they are composite. The stealth comp series are my favorite because of the amazing pop, and feeling when you hit it. It just seems to me that the ball jumps off the bat a lot quicker and tends to go further. The F3 is also very good because of the double wall composite. However, If i were to get a bat, I would purchase the stealth.
Hope the info. helps.
